Wild at Heart Wildlife Rehabilitation is an unincorporated non-profit association whose mission includes:
Providing quality care & appropriate temporary housing for injured &/or orphaned native wildlife in need of rehabilitation; with a focus on returning them back where they belong...in the wild.
Providing service to the public in need of information regarding native wildlife whenever needed (including "nuisance" animals).
To educate through programs/exhibits about native wildlife, conservation, and to promote compassion & caring of all living things.
To actively participate in ongoing education for rehabilitators  through networking, sharing information & presenting special programs for rehabilitators and also keep up to date with continuing education ourselves.
We accept all native species of wildlife for care, except snakes & certain species not allowed by the state. Since our beginnings in 2001, the number of admissions received annually steadily increases every year. We are one of only a few federally permitted rehabilitators in the western part of NC, legally allowing us to rehabilitate migratory birds, including hummingbirds to raptors; in addition to mammals & reptiles.

We receive no state or government funding. Donations are the only support we receive to help  pay for formulas, foods, supplies, medications, caging, fuel, etc. No one associated with Wild at Heart receives any compensation for the work they do.

We receive animals & referrals from veterinary offices, law enforcement agencies, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, public & other rehabilitators. There is never a charge to take an animal or to provide informational assistance to public. Whether it be to answer a question or concern, or help to solve wildlife conflicts.
